Shri Balasubramanim, popularly known as "Thiruppugazh Balu" as dedicated himself to the propagation of Thiruppugazh Mumbai.
Born on 22.05.1933 in Burma, Balu sir had his initial tutelage in music under Mallakarai Subramania Bhagavadhar. Later, he received advanced training in karnatic music from kalaimanai Thirchy Swaminadha Bhagavadhar. He was fortunate to receive special training in Purandara Dasa Kirtis form the noted Vaggeyakara 'Sri Meenakshi Suthan'.
Balu sir was initiated into thiruppugazh by none other than Guruji Shri A.S.Raghavan and under his guidance. He emerged as an eminent artist in Thiruppugazh singing. presently, he is the Chairman of Thiruppugazh Anbargal (Mumbai Region) which is a world wide movement established by Guruji Shri A.S.Raghavan. He is sought after Thiruppugazh in Mumbai and has trained a large number of students in this devotional classical music form. At preesnt, more than 40 weekly Thiruppugazh classes are being conducted in Mumbai under his guidance.
Balu sir is a performing artist and has been giving concerts in karnatic music for over 50 years. He has conducted Lec-Dems in various organisations in Mumbai and also participated in Thiruppugazh conferences both in India & abroad. He has to his credit more than 40 cassettes / CDs to the propagation of music. He is the founder of  'nadalola' an organisation in Mumbai involved in popularization of devotional music under which saint 'Thiyagaraja's jayanthi on Chithirai Poosam day is being celebrated every year and a music teacher is being honoured on that occasion.
In appreciation of his services to the cause of karnatic music & Thiruppugazh, he has been felicitated by many of the leading Sabhas in Mumbai viz. Fine Arts Society, Chempur, Naadabrahamam, Chempur Mysore Association, Matunka, Padam, Vile Parle to name a few. Â Â
