Once
a scholar of Ramayana Shri Umayalpuram Vengu bhagavathar came to Thiruvaiyar
for giving discourse on Ramayana for stretch of six months. Thyagaraja attended
those discourses and appreciated Vengu Bhagvathar. Â Â Then
Vengu bhagavathar requested Thyagaraja for teaching music to his young brothers
Kishnan and Sundaram. He accepted them as students. However, he made a practice
that the fresh students would first be sent to Jagadrashaka bhagavathar in
Aditurai for around 6 months for learned basic music till varnams. Umayalpuram
brothers followed the same regime and joined Thyagaraja in due course. Later
they became repositories of hundreds of compositions of Thyagaraja  Â
